If you have any USB audio devices installed esp by M-audio take great care before you do anything. You should see a thing that is like "USB Audio Device". Hit the Plus sign to show the installed devices. and find the section where it has Sound, Video And Game Controllers. You get here by right clicking on My Computer and going to Hardware. So to fix this problem you have to go into the Device Manager. Apparently the other one can work somehow in a very limited mode but it's NOT what you want. Very few people on this forum have actually figured out the real reason for this, but I spent literally 8 hrs or more searching around online and finally found the answer on another forum.īasically what happened is that the correct driver "seemed" to install (even showing the Axiom device name at first) but Microsoft XP decides to install it's own driver instead (Not sure who to blame). In the MIDI section of ableton live I could select Axiom but it was greyed out or unselectable in the next two boxes. I even tried to mess around in the included m-audio Enigma editor which wasn't doing anything not to mention hard to understand. I had the same problems with my Trigger Finger a while back and after reading on this forum I was about to give up on m-audio. I was really frustrated because I went and got the latest driver and still nothing. I have an Axiom-49 and had the same problem as you describe.
